I'm trying to keep this as short as possible by only including what is strictly necessary. The Grenada story isn't. However having teased it I suppose I've got to tell it, again.
In 1979 the Che Guevara inspired Communist New JEWEL Movement overthrew the government of Grenada it what it called; "The Revolution."
Some of you might remember that my paternal grandfather was part of the security detail for the British delegation that accepted Japan's surrender at the end of the Second World War.
Long after he officially left the military he just so happened to be on vacation in Grenada during The Revolution. So while the Grenadian military quickly collapsed the newly reinforced Governor-General's security detail didn't. As a result the Governor-General remained in post after The Revolution.
This created the strange situation of a Cuban style revolutionary Communist Caribbean island just off the coast of Venezuela. Only with the British Monarch as it's Head of State. Something which gave Britain a convenient foot in both camps while watching Operation Condor/Charly unfolded across the mainland.
In 1983 Britain was helping Cuba and the Soviet Union build a new airport in Grenada. One which was large enough to accommodate Soviet military transport planes. Allowing the Soviet Union to move heavy weapons to Grenada like it had moved Nuclear weapons to Cuba triggering the Cuban Missile Crisis. A more radical faction also seized power within the New JEWEL Movement.
So the US invaded Grenada and overthrew the Communist government and returned it to Capitalist Democracy.
I suppose it's note worthy as it's the exception. It saw the US use overt military force while Operation Condor/Charly were all covert, clandestine operations.
