"Top Gun: Maverick" Did Remind Me Of How Tedious Tom Cruise Is.

Even just having it on mute in the background while working away on my tablet.

As with these big, global blockbusters it efforts to appeal to everyone means trying so hard not to offend anyone. It's a war movie that doesn't even name an enemy. It's just a vague amalgamation of America's past enemies; Iran, Soviet Russia, China, the Yugoslav Balkan States the US smashed to bits in the 1990's. However nothing specific enough about them to identify any particular one and be offended.

Obviously Tom Cruise thinks Scientology is a good thing. So putting himself through it to bring Scientology to as many people as possible is motivated by altruism, even if misguided. Whereas Coldplay's desperate desire to blandly appeal to everyone is motived by their selfish desire to be like. So, arguably, they're much worse.

One thing's for certain though;

If a country's got a Defence Secretary who thinks "Top Gun: Maverick" is a documentary. Then that country's got a serious problem.
