As the soil became ever more saturated it became increasingly obvious that the leak was on the supply pipe, rather than the mains pipe. Although I'm happy to say that it wasn't as difficult to repair as I was expecting.

Replacing supply/mains pipes is actually highly specialised work. Not only is it completely beyond my abilities it's beyond the abilities of a regular household plumber. The sort of person you'd get into renovate your bathroom or replace your kitchen sink. As with Natural Gas it's one of those things where you really need to use someone who has got all the proper certificates. The water company that owns the mains pipes and your insurance company will certainly give you grief if you don't. With good reason.

This type of work is known as; "Groundswork." As in the origin of the phrase; "Laying the groundwork." Groundsworks plumbers are typically found on new build construction sites. Connecting the foundations of buildings yet to be completed to the mains supply. Although things are getting more professional the type of people you find working on new build construction sites can have a reputation for being less reliable than their Marijuana dealers.

The guys I used were great though. To the point that I let them down by not being ready for them to respond so quickly on a Sunday. Once I did call them back they were able to give me a competitive quote and get the job booked within a day. Having arrived early they got it done in less than two hours this morning. By drilling two bore holes and then threading the new pipe between those two holes. Leaving my garden almost completely undisturbed. Not that I was particularly worried about that. I'd already come to terms with the fact I was going to need to re-seed it before the first heatwave and talk of hosepipe bans began.

Normally I would try and keep them out of the glare of the spotlight. However it was all the phonecalls, emails and videos we were exchanging on Monday (11/8) that clearly put Real Estate Mogul Donald Trump off his press-conference.
