I understand they want to explore the emotional trauma of the disaster. Ultimately though it doesn't matter if Britain manages to get to the bottom of what drove it to blow its very last chance.

It was its very last chance. It won't be getting another one.

If it were an ally the US would focus instead on making sure it's still got some coat-tails to ride on.
