It's not an urban legend.

It actually happened in a street next to mine when I was growing up. To this day I still don't know the name of the street. I've never needed to, in my mental map it's labelled as; "Over there." However I can still point out the exact house, possibly to its current owners.

Needless to say it turned into a bit of a thing. As, initially, they didn't know what had happened. The local city authority responded to a call about a bad smell and discovered the body of a badly mutilated woman, in a filthy house with furniture and lamps knocked over all over the place.

When the police worked out that the woman had died of natural causes and had then been partially eaten by her Cats, who'd been living there for months knocking things over. There was then a whole other thing about how to clean up what was now a biohazard. Then a whole other thing about what to do with the infamous house where the woman had died and been eaten by her Cats. 

It was months of cordons and people in biohazard suits. Just over there.
