Wow! That Makes A Lot Of Difference!
Last year I turned one of the windows in my house into a lamp. An epilogue to the grand saga of the blind man.
I did this by attaching LED strip lights into the frame of the window. Those strip lights allow you to adjust what's known as the; "Light Temperature." From 3000°K - that nasty orange glow we typically associate with electric lights, through 4500°K to 6000°K - which is close to natural daylight. Not that natural daylight is a uniform thing.
Unfortunately it took me until the Spring to actually do this. Meaning it took until the following Autumn to get the full effect. This reawakened my slight obsession with light.
I've now put a 6000°K LED bulb in my main workspace which is as close to natural daylight as you're going to get in a lightbulb. It's certainly as close to natural daylight as you're going to get at this latitude in January.
The effect is dramatic. I can see so much more clearly. It's so much easier to concentrate. Sitting down and working for long periods actually leaves me feeling like I've got more energy. Of course the difference in Light Temperature would probably have the same effect if I wasn't working. Don't say that too loudly though. I'm currently quite happy tricking my brain into thinking of work as a reward.
Of course no-one actually chose that nasty orange glow. It was just the only colour we could create with the technology available at the time. Now technology has improved we don't have to put up with it any longer. The Pandemic of Myopia it's fuelling.
Regardless of the Light Temperature where I was using 100W of electricity to generate one bulb's worth of light I'm now only using 13W. No matter how the electricity is being generated.
I think that's what's known in Climate Change circles as; "Co-Benefits."
