Yeah. That's No Longer A Series Of Potholes.

That's a trench.

I made it with a broom!

Obviously. There's a reason I made sure I had the stuff to fill it in before I opened it up.

For the last four weeks or so I'm been consumed by a philosophical debate; "When does a crack become a hole?"

If you're using 20mm ballast. Then the answer is about 2cm.

Grass is perfectly capable of growing over concrete. It brings its own soil with it.

In tackling the upper part of the driveway I thought that's what I'd be dealing with. Some cracks running alongside each other with grass growing over the concrete between them. The sort of thing where it's debatable whether to use concrete or a paving mortar.

Getting into it though I discovered that much of the concrete had long gone. With the grass having completely reclaimed the large potholes. So I had to use a lot more concrete than I was expecting.

In the area I've been dealing with today the concrete between the potholes had cracked and crumbled to the point you could just brush it away.

This resulted in a 2300mm (2.3m) x 700mm trench. With a depth of around 70mm.

Although I was expecting this. It was still terrifying to look at!

I was tempted to take photographs. However with Social Media's bell still failing to unring itself I have no way of showing them to anyone.

Plus I couldn't find any little plastic army men to pose in it.

Although for the purposes of the neighbourhood WhatsApp.

Speak to the actual builder first.

In a pinch I'm sure he can muster a couple of grunts.
