Hmm. My Linen Closet Door Seems To Have Joined NATO.
In the sense that it's become completely unhinged.
Something I've delayed mentioning. In no small part due to the effort involved in explaining what a; "Linen Closet" is.
Like most houses of this age I've got a hot water tank. Which is a tank used to heat and then store hot water. This is both delicate and ugly to look at. So most people build a closet around it. Obviously the hot water tank gives off heat. So you can use the upper part of the closet to dry and air clothes and other linens.
In my case the door to the upper part of the closet is held to the frame by two hinges. Or at least it was until last Monday (10/6) when, for reasons I still don't know, the screws holding the upper hinge to the frame ripped themselves out of the wood.
Now this is a solid wooden door. Essentially an interior room door, only about a third of the length. It's the sort of heavy thing you definitely don't want landing on you. So, for safety, I had to immediately remove the door.
It was at this point I discovered that some twerp had painted over the flathead screws on the lower hinge. Leaving me with no option other than to get the crowbar out and pry it from the frame. If I did too much damage to the frame then it meant I wouldn't be able to put the door straight back on.
After getting the door off without too much damage. I discovered that where the upper hinge had ripped away it had already done too much damage to the frame. Replacing the frame could involve having to build an entirely new floor-to-ceiling cabinet. So I'm going to need to have a bit of a think about that.
In the meantime I've ordered although not yet received, let alone fitted, a cheap venetian-blind. To cover up what currently resembles a large and ugly hole in the wall. I'm hoping that will turn out to be a permanent solution. As that means I won't have to spend any more time, money or effort on the problem.
Amongst the jobs I'm already trying to find time to do. It actually has been a war against Black Mould.

When warm air meets cold glass you get condensation or damp. Wherever you get damp you are, inevitably, going to get a bit of Black Mould.
The next big area I want to target is the bathroom. It shouldn't be any mystery where the damp comes from in a bathroom. I'm hoping the paint will survive the scrubbing, so I don't have to repaint it. However I've already decided that the existing roller-blind will not survive so have already ordered a replacement.
Obviously this would carry more weight if they'd already been delivered and I'd fitted them. However;
"Fitting Blinds; Nowhere near as difficult as Hillarys make it look!"
