However it's a cultural convention, rather than a rule, that at Eurovision you can only can only talk about Eurovision!

So it's common for nations to make little nods to other non--Eurovision songs and artist. To allow them to be discussed in a culturally acceptable way.

It's also quite common in smaller,less mainstream genres. If someone gets a little of success they give their peers a leg-up by making little nods to them in front of the big audience.

I'll need to check but I think it's the pop-punk Good Charlotte who feature a lot of elements of the the work of much more obscure but genre defining  Minor Threat in their songs.

Of course we'll have to debate whether it'll be enough to sate Taylor Swift's (bad) bloodlust.
