Kids?!

I'm not snubbing the Oscars this year. I've just been having a nightmare day. At what's threatening to be the start of a nightmare week.

Any time I do find should probably be spent on my reserve duties. I really think my Awards Season would have been better spent working on the logistics of getting actual humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. Funnily enough, I already knew they're going to have to build wharfs and piers out of earth ballast rocks.

Due to all that not only haven't I seen any of the nominated movies this year. I haven't even got much of a sense of many of the nominated movies.

However "Poor Things" seems to touch on issues I'm familiar with. Essentially I think I already know the answer.

Obviously it's not possible to talk about the history of the Sci-fi genre without mentioning Joss Whedon. His work in elevating the genre and bringing it into the mainstream. All those Marvel movies. Obviously I have a bit of a history with Joss Whedon.

Key early works in the Sci-fi genre are the movie; "Metropolis" (1927) and the play; "Rossum's Universal Robots (R.U.R)" (1920). The corporation in Whedon's lesser known; "Dollhouse" is named Rossum in tribute to the play. The play which actually invented the word; "Robot." Scientists later took the word from the artists.

Both Metropolis and R.U.R use the exploitation of the Robots as a metaphor for the struggle of the working classes. Essentially Communist propaganda.

The type of pre-Stalin Communism that the likes of Robert Oppenheimer romanticized.

Obviously Oppenheimer is going to need something of a political analysis. Telling the story of the event which defined the politics of the second half of the 20th century into the 21st century. The Keynesian Consensus, the Bretton Woods order, the Cold War. The collapse of the Keynesian consensus and the rise of nasty Progressive ideologies such as Critical Race Theory.

I'm sure we all know when Oppenheimer went into production though.
