Even if the IDF was going to lie to the relatives this was always going to come out. Attempting to cover it up would only make it so much more damaging when it did.

Although this is the sort of thing which happens in the confusion of war. I'm not dismissing as just something that happens in the confusion of war and saying everyone needs to move.

The IDF absolutely needs to strengthen its procedures to make sure it doesn't happen again. The first step in doing that is making everyone alert to the fact that this situation can arise and probably will arise again.

Making as much noise about this is the fastest way to achieve that.
