Personally I found the timing very suspicious. Coming two days after a call between the Iranian Foreign Minister and the Irish Foreign Minister, acting on behalf of the EU in JCOPA negotiations.

However if a vehicle is somewhere it isn't supposed to be, outside of a normal patrol pattern. It's difficult to quickly arrange an ambush. Let alone a riot to provide cover for an ambush.

Normally when someone takes the decision to open fire they're already angry enough to kill the people they've opened fire on. So will stay that angey until they've killed them. 

Also. Take it from someone with relatives who've served in the Irish Defence Forces. They're quite rubbish.
