It's something I was reminded of while creating the electrical outlet for the new stove.

When she first moved into her apartment. The only mother I had at the time asked me to install a light fitting in the kitchen.

Normally a very, very easy job.

However.

In the UK we use three core cable as standard. Meaning you have three wires;

Live: which carries the current into the circuit. This is Brown or Red, depending on its age.

Neutral: which carries the current out of the circuit. This is Blue or Black, depending on its age.

Earth: which is there in case anything goes wrong with the other two wires. It carries the current into the ground, rather than across your heart. It is striped Green & Yellow or Green, depending on its age.

I got up into this ceiling and discovered four wires. All Purple. All connected to something.

In a situation like that the only way you can identify the live wire is by turning on the current. Then running a wand with an LED in it over each wire.

It didn't happen on that occasion.

However I'm sure you can see how if you have to do that a lot. Then occasionally getting electrocuted sort of becomes inevitable.

And I've just remembered why I didn't bother typing this up at the time.

Meanwhile.

We can all see the subdivision is utterly useless.

However, surely even they must've been able to get it online by now.
