Popular legend has it. 

That Thomas Edison used George Westinghouse's Alternating Current (AC) to kill an Elephant. To prove that Edison's own Direct Current (DC) was so much safer.

However. That; "War of the Currents" was won by Westinghouse in ~ 1899.

Edison didn't electrocute that Elephant until 1903.

Proving that Edison was either trying to sell his new DC invention; "The Electric Chair."

Or Edison was just a dick.
