Across the first three albums their bassist, Jason Thirsk, battled drink & drug problems. Which were really just symptoms of his deep Depression.

Then he committed suicide.

That album was the cathartic response.

The main motif is overlapping guitars. Simulating the sense of drowning.

Which is a bit dark, obviously.
