I'm currently taking a break from streaming Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Having finished Season 4. Which, like the rest of the show, I'm going to have to revisit fully at some point.

However Season 4 seems to have been critical within the story of the show.

The main cast have left High School. With some going on to College/University. While others go off to the spin-off show; "Angel."

Over the course of the season I think they were planning to expand on the Faith/Eliza Dushku storyline. While finally outing Willow as gay. Introducing the Amber character as her girlfriend.

It was at this point Britain decided to launch its attack, with actual swords. Against both me and the show.

The season finale seems to involve the core characters having some sort of collective nervous breakdown. Or "dream sequence." During which the original; "Slayer" is introduced.

Officially credited as; "Primeval" this original Slayer is a somewhat beast-like Black person. Which, as America continues with its own collective nervous breakdown, has led to accusations of racism.

However this Primeval isn't just a Black person. It's an African woman. Specifically from the modern day Ethiopia/Sudan region.

It is also very clearly not intended to be a depiction of Ethiopian/Sudanese person in the year 2000. Rather someone from the pre-historic dawn of time.

An earlier episode in the season warns College Freshmen about the dangers of alcohol. With a magical beer which eventually undoes evolution on those who drink it. Reducing them to Neanderthals. As even non-magical beer has been known to do.

So this Primeval character is primarily a reference to the anthropological theory. That the Ethiopia/Sudan region of Africa being the cradle of humanity. The original humans from which all races are descended. Making racism seem a bit silly.

This was the season where everybody involved had to become super knowledgeable on the Afghan Mujahideen, the Afghan Taliban, Al Qaeda and Islamist terrorism more generally.

So the Primeval character also wears lots of white mud/soil caked on her skin. This is a reference to the Neolithic Nuer Tribe. Which is native to that Ethiopia/Sudan region of Africa. Around the Upper Nile basin.

The Nuer Tribe have long worn this white mud to protect against insect bites. During the Second Sudanese Civil War (1983-2005) this led to a faction being known as; "The Nuer White Army."

In 1998 the US President Bill Clinton tried inflicting some insect bites of his own. Against Al Qaeda in Sudan. In the form of Cruise missile strikes against the Al-Shifa pharmaceutical facotry in the capital Khartoum.

Since then we've had the Darfur Crisis. The end of the Second Sudanese Civil War. The partition of Sudan. The creation of South Sudan and the start of the South Sudan Civil War.

More recently, in August 2019, we also saw the overthrow of the Sudanese government. With the assistance of certain Social Media Influencers.

At this time of year Sudan, South Sudan and Ethiopia always have a bit of an issue. With nomadic tribes like the Nuer disregarding their rather fluid national borders. In search of ever diminishing farm and pasture land.

This year things seem more heated than usual. Possibly due to Ethiopia's decision to start filling the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). Much to the annoyance of it's Sudanese and Egyptian neighbours.

Meanwhile a fuller picture of the recent Tigray conflict is starting to emerge. As Egypt's refers to it's medical workers battling COVID-19 as; "The White Army."

So I'm not exactly in a rush. To start blindly pouring gasoline on all of that.

In her debut scene the Primeval character cannot speak. So the Amber character must speak for her. The insult of White people speaking for Africans who are not allowed to speak for themselves is exactly the point.

In this scene Amber is wearing clothing similar to a Lehenga. Which, as America continues its own collective nervous breakdown, has led to accusations of her appropriating Indian culture.

However that style of clothing is not exclusive to India. It is common across central Asia. Including some of the ethnic groups in Afghanistan. Or at least it was. Before Taliban came along.

Former President Clinton's insect bites against Al Qaeda also included Cruise missile strikes against Khost in Afghanistan.

The thing is. I've had this exact argument before. Over the style of dress worn by different Afghan tribes.

With Rihanna. When she was accused of much the same thing during her 2013 Diamonds World Tour. Not that I can remember the details.
