Betty & the Freedom Rider.
Sunday (20/9/20) saw the Emmy Awards in America.
Which seemed like a fantastic opportunity to celebrate. All the US TV Shows I've been watching. Nominations be damned.
Including a HBO show called; "Betty." It's about four teenage women brought together by a mutal love of skatebording.
One of whom is blatantly Rihanna. Apparently she once dated this British guy. Who she desperately wanted to strangle.
Those insults aside. It does provide something of a talking point about inclusivity and opportunity within the industry.
It must be said that it's really not up to the standard of premium cable. Not yet fully formed even it doesn't seem to know what it wants to be.
For example does it want to be a show about skateboarding. It certainly has a genuine love for the sport. Attracting Tony Hawk. Simply to make a joke at his expense.
Or does it want to be a show about young women and their relationships. In the style of "Girls."
Does it just want to provoke and inflame. Like "Euphoria."
Obviously though the people involved are never going to get up to the required standard. Unless they're given an oppportunity like this.
When the screaming has subsided slightly I would like to take a look at these so-called inclusivity riders adopted by the Oscars. Then offer my completely unqualified opinion.
