Israel of course hosted the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest.
As hosts their entry referenced the Jewish Home Party. A small part of the United Right Coalition.
In turn the United Right Coalition are/were a small part of the wider Likud led coalition of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
This particular election has been triggered by a dispute between the United Right Coalition and the Israel Our Home (Yisrael Beitneiu) Party of Avigdor Lieberman. Another small part of the Likud led coalition.
The United Right Coalition are religious Zionists. Meaning they want an expanded Israel run in accordance with Jewish law.
Yisrael Beiteinu however are secular Zionists. Meaning they want an expanded Israel. But one run in accordance with secular law.
Officially the dispute is over the taxpayer funded stipend paid to Ultra-Orthodox Jewish men to study Judaism. Rather than working.
The United Right are obviously in favour. While Lieberman is opposed.
Although some of you may have detect a whiff of opportunism in the air.
I think you can appreciate though why, in comparison, Britain's Brexit meltdown seems simple & stupid.
